Cold Laser Therapy at
Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness

Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness is pleased to offer cold laser therapy (also known as low level light laser) as a supplemental treatment to acupuncture. Cold laser therapy is a painless and noninvasive treatment that uses low levels of light to stimulate healing in tissue, muscles and the joints. The absorbed light from the laser causes a reaction that promotes cellular regeneration to damaged cells in the body. There is no sensation during low level light laser therapy other than feeling the laser device touching the skin.
Treatment typically lasts 5 to 10 minutes.

Common uses for cold laser therapy:

Sprains, Strains, Tendonitis, Bursitis, Tennis elbow, Neck pain, Low back pain, Hip pain, Knee pain, Muscle spasms, Arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid), Fibromyalgia and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Similar to acupuncture, cold laser therapy (low light laser) can be used to stimulate acupoints. At Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness, cold laser can be used in place of acupuncture, however, when combined with acupuncture treatments, the two therapies work extremely well together to help the body repair.

What is Cold Laser?

The cold laser is a wand that emits low levels of light which are not enough to heat the body, hence being called “cold”. The laser’s different wavelengths and outputs of light are applied to targeted areas of the body and absorbed. The absorbed light causes a reaction that promotes cellular regeneration to damaged cells in the body.

At Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness, we use the MR5 Active Pro Laser Stim. This laser enables us to focus light therapy directly on the specific areas that need healing.

The unit has “Super Pulsing”, which targets tissue with deeper penetration than lasers using continuous waves. The MR5 has a patented technology called LaserSweep, that has continuous changing frequencies so that the body does not adapt to the treatment. The end result is a much more effective treatment.

This research article discusses the use and effectiveness of cold laser therapy for pain reduction and how it is particularly helpful as an adjunctive therapy for patients undergoing treatment for musculoskeletal complaints.
